Part two of Joyce and Damian’s engagement shoot picked up where the first met, at YVR airport. There we revisited where they worked, where the hung out, and more. From there, we headed to the Olympic Oval. This was where they had their first date! We then finished with a nice walk around Steveston Village. The shoot was in the middle of the day, so I was a bit concerned about harsh lighting, but by the time we were at Steveston things were all good! I’m really happy with how both their shoots turned out and I hope it makes a little nice album for them!
book review: Photography Q&A
I cannot say enough good things about “Photography Q&A” by Zach Arias! In this book he covers a large variety of questions from gear, to business, to lighting and composition. I feel that the book is targeted to up and coming professionals, but I believe everyone from a hobbyist to an established pro could get something out of this book. Zach’s style of writing is entertaining, yet informative which made this book hard to put down.
One of the two things that stood out to me personally, off the top my was how Zach mentioned near the beginning of the book on how you would get your return on investment in the book through one of his tips. This came for me in the form of how I can get more second shooting jobs as a wedding photographer in terms of approaching other photographers and even the wording to use in emails. The second thing that stood out to me was Zach’s story on his journey to becoming a professional photographer. He was pretty much working a job that was getting him nowhere and he decided to quit and take the dive and go for it in the world of photography. The reason why I mention this is because I feel like I’m in a similar situation right now (minus the kids and the house) and reading about his story was inspiring to me.
Anyways, I highly recommend this book. Great read. Full of information. Worth every penny.
Bridal portraits
Recently I collaborated with makeup artist Lan Zhang and model Nikki on my first creative shoot. The shoot took place at Stanley Park and I was glad that I went there to location scout a few days earlier because the shots turned out pretty much as planned. Location scouting also allowed us to be efficient in our shoot as we finished slightly ahead of schedule. I had so much fun with this shoot, I can't wait to do another collaborative shoot again in the very near future!
