Shaughnessy Restaurant Wedding: Carolyn + Aaron

Carolyn and Aaron’s wedding was my last wedding of the year and we definitely ended on a high note! We started with getting ready photos at Carolyn’s spacious family home where the atmosphere was pretty laid back. I always love doing getting ready photos at family homes because it adds a personal touch to the story that you wouldn't necessarily get from a hotel.

We had picked UBC for the first look because of the sculpture at the Buchanan Building. This large white sculpture is a popular spot for portraits during the warmer months due to how clean and bright it makes photos look. During cooler months it still does all that but it also provides us with one important thing, shade from the rain.

The rain actually managed to clear briefly so we made it two blocks down to the Asian Garden for some quick portraits. On our way out I noticed how the autumn leaves kinda created a frame around the steps so we headed over for a few quick snaps before heading off to the ceremony.

One of the great things about photographing weddings is seeing the unique quirks of each couple. For Carolyn and Aaron, they added their personal touch by walking down the aisle to Europe’s “Final Countdown”. Of course, it was played by a live string duo; a very classy choice.

The reception space was absolutely beautiful. Pretty sure I saw Carolyn have a moment when she saw it for the first time. As a Taylor Swift fan, I was more than excited to see the couple have their first dance to “Lover”. That might have been the highlight of my day! The first dance moved into the parents dance, which transitioned to a hora dance which is always so full of energy and fun to photograph.

A big thanks to the amazing team of vendors who made this day possible!
