This picture here again touches on the subject of genuine reactions. For this picture though I’ll touch on a new subject, and that’s having people around during portraits. Most people like to have portraits be a very private experience, sometimes only the bride and groom are there, though half the time the wedding party is there too. There are occasions where it’s better to have close friends and family around, depending on the couples relationship with them.
In the case of this photo, it definitely was beneficial to have close friends and family around as they made the couple more relaxed and at ease. I’m pretty sure this reaction here was from one of their friends off in the distance doing or saying something goofy.
Getting shots like these is all about being ready. I tend to take a lot of test shots without letting my subjects know. Doing this keeps their guard down during the test photos and it also makes things more efficient for the actual photos.
