first dance vancouver wedding

This here was a magical moment. The couple was going to the first dance and I was a little concerned about the lighting. The room was pretty darn dark and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to shoot with available light like I like to. The ceilings at this venue were also super high and dark, which means using a bounce flash might not work too well. There were also no walls nearby that I could get a side bounce from with my flash. I was really hoping for the best when the dancing started.

Moments into the dancing, I was so concentrated on the shooting that I didn’t even notice the bride and grooms friends and family gathering around in a circle with sparklers and it was so magical! the sparklers gave me just enough light to not need to use flash at all and I shot this completely with available light. I like shooting available light with the first dance as it captures the ambience better, which I feel is something that is important for the first dance.

This photo was taken in Vancouver, BC.
