Thoughts on a Photo: Nine

outdoor wedding ceremony agassiz

What a view huh? The photo was taken in May so we were lucky to still have some snow capped mountains in the background.

This photo here gives me an opportunity to talk about outdoor ceremonies and why they’re my favourite. The first is lighting. Now lighting can be a bit of a mixed bag. If the ceremony is in the afternoon on a bright sunny day, we could get some squinty eyes depending on the angle of the sun. Having a ceremony that’s in the shade would prevent that, but often times there is no shade to be had, as seen in this photo. The most ideal scenario for an outdoor ceremony is for it to be partially cloudy. That way the light is soft enough to prevent any harsh shadows while still providing light that is warm.

The second thing I like about outdoor ceremonies is the freedom to move around. There is an abundance of space to work and choose angles from which not only makes it easier to shoot, but gives us more of an opportunity to work on more creative shots.

This photo here was taken in Agassiz, BC.
